8 - Normalization

Jack coaches a softball team and wants to be able to create a database to track his players' statistics. Right now, he has the following pieces of information:

  1. A roster, including each player’s name, phone number, current school, DOB, his primary batting and catching hand, and a list of the positions he plays (with a primary position being listed first).
  2. At each game, Jack writes down the name of their opponent and keeps a statistics sheet for his team. It shows which players were present for the game, what position(s) each played during each innings, the total number of at bats he had during the game, and the outcome of each at bat. For each pitcher, Jack keeps the number of walks, strikes, hits, and home runs hit against them. He also writes down the overall score of the game.

Create a well-formed data model in 3NF.Think about what types of reports would be useful for Jack. Think broadly about this. He may need to be able to produce reports for college scouts, for player feedback, to determine who are his best pitchers, or if the team tends to slump in one inning rather than another. See attached samples of the current paper based tracking system used by Jack.
