Lab exercises

Most people gain a better understanding of a concept or technique when they complete a related exercise
These lab exercises illustrate some key data management concepts and techniques
Students find the exercises enjoyable and informative
The exercises are easily completed within a lab session of 45 to 50 minutes

Exercise	Purpose
Adding images	To add images to a database (MS Access)
Control break	To illustrate how to create a control break report (MS Access)
Data generation	To generate table test data (MS Excel)
Data integration	Illustrating some key issues of data integration
Google maps	Adding locations to a Google map using the Google API
Google search	To learn some of the lesser known features of Google's search engine
Insert statements	To illustrate how to convert a spreadsheet (MS Excel) into INSERT statements for loading into a relational database
Normalization	Conversion of an unnormalized database to a normalized database
Pivot table	To demonstrate the concepts of OLAP (MS Access)
